“Heavy Rain Alert for Parts of Jammu as Wet Spell Continues Till July 8”: MeT

Srinagar, July 7: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir on July 7 and 8, with heavy rain, brief intense showers and thunderstorms likely at a few locations.

According to the forecast, Jammu division is expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places, mainly during late night and early morning hours, while a few areas may also witness brief showers during the afternoon.

The weather department said many districts of Kashmir division are also likely to experience light to moderate rain, accompanied by brief intense showers at a few places, particularly during the afternoon and early morning hours.

For July 9 and 10, the department has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with brief intense heavy showers expected at a few locations.

From July 11 to 12, Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness one or two spells of rain and thundershowers at many places, while isolated areas may receive heavy rain and brief intense downpours.

In its advisory, the MET Centre warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall and intense showers on July 7, 8 and 11, particularly during the afternoon and early morning hours.

The department also cautioned that flash floods, landslides and mudslides may occur at vulnerable locations in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range. Residents and travellers have been advised to stay away from nallas, streams and mudslide-prone areas during periods of intense rainfall.
