Srinagar: Kashmir received its much-awaited snowfall, bringing relief to farmers and residents after a prolonged dry spell. However, the intensity and scale of the snowfall, particularly on the Karewa lands, have raised concerns.

According to Arajimand Hussain, nearly four feet of snow accumulated overnight on the Karewa plateaus—an occurrence he described as unprecedented in his lifetime. He also pointed to a severe windstorm during the night that caused large-scale damage across several areas.

The combination of heavy snowfall and strong winds during the ongoing Chillai Kalan period has disrupted normal life, affected power supply, and damaged property in parts of the Valley. Officials are assessing the extent of the damage, while residents have been advised to remain cautious amid adverse weather conditions.

The unusual weather pattern has sparked concern among locals, who say such extreme conditions are not typical for this time of winter. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as snowfall and cold conditions persist across Kashmir.
