Srinagar, Nov 25, : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu’s office has assured swift action against the communal harassment of two Kashmiri shawl sellers in Surjanpur Village of Hamirpur District. The assurance came after the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association raised the issue with the Chief Minister’s Principal Media Advisor, Naresh Chauhan.
A viral video showed the wife of a local Sarpanch threatening the Kashmiri shawl sellers, coercing them to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” and instructing villagers to boycott their business solely because of their religion.
National Convenor JKSA, Nasir Khuehami urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action, stating that such behavior must not go unchecked and that social harmony and communal unity must be upheld at all costs.
Responding to the concerns, Naresh Chauhan informed Khuehami that incidents of harassment and intimidation of Kashmiris will not be tolerated. “The Chief Minister will order an inquiry into the matter, and we will ensure strict action against those responsible,” Chauhan said [KNT]
