Jammu, Aug 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) on Tuesday celebrated a landmark day in the region’s cricketing history, marking a series of major achievements that reflect the growing stature of Jammu and Kashmir in Indian cricket.
The highlight of the celebrations was the selection of J&K pacer Auqib Nabi to India’s national squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, a significant milestone for cricket in the Union Territory.
Adding to the celebrations, six JKCA players, along with two standbys and three support staff members, including the head coach, were selected to represent North Zone in the prestigious Duleep Trophy. The North Zone team will be captained by JKCA nominee Kanhaiya Wadhawan.
The occasion was attended by Officiating JKCA President Desh Rattan Dubey, Secretary Vivek Khajuria, Joint Secretary Wajahat Majeed, and Cricket Advisory Committee member Meenu Singh Slathia, who congratulated the players and support staff for their achievements. They praised the dedication of the players and the Association’s continued efforts to strengthen cricketing talent across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Association also felicitated Rajesh Dhar for serving as Administrative Manager of the Indian cricket team during the recent Afghanistan series, acknowledging his contribution to the sport.
In another important development, former India fast bowler Siddharth Kaul was welcomed as JKCA’s new Bowling Coach. The Association expressed confidence that his experience at the highest level would help nurture emerging fast bowlers from the region.
Speaking on the occasion, JKCA officials reaffirmed their commitment to player development, coaching excellence, and strengthening cricket infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. They also expressed gratitude to BCCI President Mithun Manhas for his leadership and contribution to the Association’s growth during his tenure as Director of Cricket Operations and Development.
The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets and felicitation of players, coaches, and officials, marking what JKCA described as a historic chapter in the growth of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. | Kashmir Pen
