Srinagar, May 6: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday accused the National Conference (NC)-led government in Jammu and Kashmir of complete governance failure and betraying the public mandate.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) PDP legislator from Pulwama,Waheed-ur-Rehan Para, alleged that the 50-MLA government failed to deliver on its key promises, including the review of the reservation policy, providing electricity tariff relief, and protecting the Urdu language.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir gave a massive mandate to the NC. But where is the delivery? They promised to review the reservation policy. Nothing has been done. Electricity bills have risen from ?300 to ?3,000,” MLA Para alleged.
He also accused the chief minister Omar Abdullah led National Conference government of diverting attention from pressing issues, particularly the recent ban on Siraj-ul-Uloom, an educational institution in Shopian, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
“An institution registered with the school department, higher education, and Kashmir University — which also has a degree college — has been banned.
Instead of addressing this, the government is raking up eight-month-old Rajya Sabha election issues,” the PDP leader said.
MLA Para further alleged that the NC government was erasing the region’s linguistic heritage by digitising land and revenue records in English.
“The first record of Jammu and Kashmir is in Urdu. It is being digitised in English using a Haryana-based application. This is not an administrative decision — it is the erasure of history,” he said.
Rejecting the NC’s attempts to bring up the PDP’s 2014-2018 alliance with the BJP, MLA Para said, “If they think accusing the PDP will solve their governance deficit or party implosion, they are living in a misunderstanding.”
He also cited outsourcing of 21,000 jobs and induction of foreign companies, asking, “They promised one lakh jobs to youth. Where are those jobs?” (KNS)
