Independent Journalist Muzamil Maqbool beaten up by J&K Police. Muzamil Maqbool an independent Journalist and Host of Posdcast Plain talk with 101 north media was beaten up by J&K police cop in dalgate. Muzamil took to the social media write “Today it ended up with police horribly beating me up unnecessarily. We were unloading a supply for food kits near Dalgate chowk (dhar medicate). Seeing the unimaginable traffic plying on road made me pull my phone out to film a video of it. I wanted to be a responsible citizen and wanted to forward it to deptt. Concern. A crpf Jawan nearby shouted not to film. It was then and there i stopped filming. Assist. Sub inspector AG Mir, from nehru park police station from across the road came to me, took my phone and abused me. He didn’t even stop there but used his lathi on me. I tried to reach Dysp Sheikh aadil on my other phone as he was in my dailed numbers. He is continuously helping me with medicine for ailing kidney patients. This Asi hit on that phone as well breaking it down. It amde my entire Dalgate coordination committe members to come forward and requesting this cop to leave me but he started abusing them as well. I kept my cool and said Jinab, i will delete the video infront of you but it fell to deaf ears. He didn’t listen to me. He saw my media card and my emergency respone card as well. After many requests made to this cop, He finally gave me my phones and id’s back after deleting not only video but crpf deleted other pics as well. I don’t understand what is happening here? Is this how social workers/independent writers/Journalist and bloggers are harassed by police? I am a law abiding citizen and never i have come across such things which can endanger me or anyone else. Entire footage is captured in govt. Surveillance camera near by. I am writing this to take action against this cop who misused his uniform today. Dalgate coordination committee which is an amalgam of mohalla committees condemned this act and requested Sp east to take action against this cop. Scores of Journalists and social activists condemned this assulat on muzamil maqbool and showed solidarity with him.
