New Delhi: Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin has said that India is uniquely positioned to act as a bridge for peace between Israel and Palestine, citing New Delhi’s balanced relations with both sides and its longstanding diplomatic credibility.
Speaking during her visit to India for the India–Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Shahin stressed that the region can no longer afford prolonged conflict and that dialogue and diplomacy must replace war. She said India’s historic support for the Palestinian cause, alongside its strong ties with Israel, places it in a rare position to help facilitate meaningful negotiations.
The Palestinian minister underlined the need for a political solution based on international law and reiterated support for a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel. She also noted that ordinary Palestinians should not be viewed through the prism of militancy alone, calling for greater global engagement with Palestinian civil and political leadership.
India has consistently maintained that it supports peace through dialogue and has reiterated its commitment to humanitarian assistance and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region. The remarks reflect growing expectations among Arab nations that India could play a constructive mediating role in efforts to bring lasting peace to West Asia.
