Former MLA and National Conference (NC) senior leader Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar Sunday raised the issue of scores of Kashmiri students, businessmen, patients and laborers stranded in several parts of country and appealed Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to take concrete measures for their return.
NC leader said due to ongoing lockdown across country, Kashmiris stranded in several parts of country unable to step out and are facing immense hardships while staying far away from their families in current situation.
NC leader said, “I urged Lieutenant Government that most of the students who are pursuing higher education outside are unable to return to the Valley due to restrictions and lack of transport facilities”.
During the conversation with LG Murmu, NC leader expressed his concern over the condition of students and other Kashmiris stuck outside and questioned why students and others are not being brought to Valley despite completing back to back quarantine periods and tested negative repeatedly.
He requested Lieutenant Governor to provide necessary assistance to J&K students and other Kashmiris stranded outside Valley.
However Lieutenant Governor assured NC leader that with an aim to address the issues faced by the residents of the Union Territory living in different parts of the country, a 24X7 helpline centre has been established at J&K Resident Commissioner’s Office, New Delhi following the lockdown due to the Corona virus pandemic.
LG said the helpline is engaged with local administrations of more than 18 states and rendering all possible help in the form of cooked food, dry ration, medicines, vegetables as well as temporary accommodation wherever required.
