Awantipora, December 12: Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, Professor at the Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), has been appointed as a Visiting Research Professor by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). A renowned geophysicist with over four decades of expertise in water sciences—particularly groundwater—Prof. Shakeel holds a Ph.D. in Hydrology from the Paris School of Mines, France. He earlier headed the Indo-French Centre for Groundwater Research at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, and has completed 37 years of distinguished service in research and academia. His current work focuses on converting climate-driven runoff into sustainable groundwater resources. He was also part of the IUST team that recently won the 6th National Water Award.

Prof. Shakeel’s assignment at the University of Zambia is expected to enhance academic exchange and strengthen research collaboration between IUST and institutions across Africa.
