IUST to host workshop on international day for disaster risk reduction 2025

Awantipora, Oct 11: The Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) will organise a one-day workshop on Monday, October 13, 2025, to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR).

According to a statement issued here, the event is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR), Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

The workshop, aimed at promoting dialogue and research collaboration in the field of disaster management with participation from students, scholars, and professionals, will be held at the university campus. It will bring together experts, policymakers, and researchers to deliberate on strategies for disaster risk reduction and sustainable development.

Dr. Afroz Ahmad, Member, National Green Tribunal (NGT), will be the Chief Guest of the program. The programme will also feature addresses by Ms. Snober Jameel, JKAS, Deputy Secretary, DMRRR, J&K, and Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, Consultant, IUST. A panel discussion on “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters” will also be held with eminent experts from UNESCO, World Bank, ANRF, CSIR-IIIM, CWC, CGWB, and other institutions. The event is being convened by Prof. Shakeel Ahmed and coordinated by Dr. Irfan Maqbool Bhat, Coordinator, CDRR, IUST.
