Jammu and Kashmir Police has constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the Anantnag attack that left seven Amarnath yatris dead, said a media report.

“The SIT will be headed by DIG South Kashmir, SP Pani. It also includes SSP Anantnag, Altaf Ahmad Khan,” The Indian Express reported on Friday.

Police have blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba for the attack that took place on Monday night in Botengoo village of Anantnag district, a charge denied by the militant outfit.

Terming the attack un-Islamic, a Lashkar spokesman told news agencies in Kashmir that the attack was a “handiwork of Indian agencies”
