Schools were closed in additional district of Bhadarwah in Chenab Valley on Thursday following heavy rains and an avalanche warning sounded by the metereological department.

“In wake of inclement weather predictions by the Meteorological department, additional deputy Commissioner(ADC) Bhadarwah Imam Din Kitchlo ordered closure of all schools upto 8th standard and  also appealed to general public not to venture in slide prone areas and near streams,” said an official.

Tehsildar Bhadarwah Masood Ahmed said: “The MeT department has predicted heavy rainfall and also issued avalanche warning, flash floods and mud slides in additional district Bhadarwah. Considering the advisory, holiday has been declared in schools so that children don’t face any risk or inconvenience.”

“As a precautionary move and due to heavy rainfall since early morning,  we have been  forced to declare high alert in areas close to river Neeru and its tributaries and also people living on slopes and slide prone areas,” said Ahmed.

The ADC has directed all the officers to be present at their respective headquarters and to remain in contact with the administration to deal with any emergency situation.

He also  informed that people can contact Tehsildar Bhadarwah on his  mobile 9419647340 in case of any emergency.
