Political parties warn that centralizing waqf property management will erode centuries-old communal structures. In the absence of a functioning Assembly, the people’s mandate remains absent in this crucial debate.

While militancy has reduced, fresh tensions in Rajouri and Poonch, and targeted violence prove instability is far from over. Economic stagnation continues, with youth unemployment a serious concern. Land reclamation drives, seen as indiscriminate, are fostering resentment—especially in rural Kashmir.

J&K’s once-vibrant press now operates under intense scrutiny. Civil liberties are shrinking, as fear becomes a defining feature of public life. Simultaneously, rapid infrastructure expansion—while promising growth—threatens fragile ecosystems that form the region’s backbone.
