Jammu, Oct 29th : A Sub-Inspector posted in the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, has been placed under suspension following allegations of professional impropriety, abuse of official authority and transmission of inappropriate WhatsApp messages to a woman.
The disciplinary action was initiated after the complainant approached Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Tejinder Singh, through a written representation, alleging that the officer had solicited personal favours in return for facilitating the transfer of a police personnel on humanitarian grounds.
As per the complaint, the woman had sought the transfer of a police official whose father was reportedly bedridden. She alleged that the SI subsequently sent her objectionable messages and asked her to meet him and stay at a hotel in exchange for expediting the transfer.
The complainant further accused the officer of misusing his official position and engaging in inappropriate communication with other women through WhatsApp, allegedly in connection with the recruitment of Special Police Officers (SPOs).
A senior police officer confirmed that the SI had been suspended pending a departmental inquiry. The investigating panel is expected to submit its findings within a month, after which further disciplinary action will be determined.
The complainant has reportedly furnished screenshots of the alleged WhatsApp conversations to the IGP, seeking action against the officer under the law.
The allegations are yet to be established and will be examined as part of the departmental inquiry.
