Srinagar, July 13, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir Fiction Writers Guild organised a grand literary event, “Jashn-e-Noor Shah,” at Hotel Shehanshah Palace, Boulevard Road, Dalgate, Srinagar, to honour renowned fiction writer, author and intellectual Noor Shah for his outstanding contribution to Urdu literature.
The prestigious gathering was attended by a large number of distinguished scholars, writers, poets, fiction authors, literary enthusiasts and prominent social personalities from across the Kashmir Valley.
The function was presided over by former Judge Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, while Noor Shah was the guest of honour. The dais also included noted writer Khalid Hussain, Patron and Chief Host of the Fiction Writers Guild Wahshi Saeed, and Guild President Engineer Shafa Ahmad.
Welcoming the guests, Guild Vice President Engineer Javed Shabir delivered the inaugural address, describing Noor Shah’s literary contributions as a guiding light for the younger generation. Delivering the keynote address, noted writer Khalid Hussain presented a comprehensive review of Noor Shah’s distinguished career, highlighting his remarkable achievements in fiction writing, literary scholarship, research and his invaluable services to Urdu literature.
One of the highlights of the programme was the tribute session, elegantly conducted by Guild Vice President Shaukat Shafi, during which speakers reflected on various aspects of Noor Shah’s personality and literary excellence, describing him as one of the most influential literary figures of the contemporary era.
During the special felicitation ceremony, Noor Shah was ceremonially honoured with a traditional turban, floral garlands and a Certificate of Honour, the citation of which was read before the audience. Several eminent literary and social personalities also presented him with mementoes and gifts as tokens of their admiration and respect, including Wahshi Saeed, Professor Shafiqa Parveen, Ghulam Nabi Shahid, Dr. Nilofer Naz Nahvi, Shabir Matji, and Noor Mohammad.
The occasion also coincided with Noor Shah’s birthday, which was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony. Guests extended their heartfelt greetings, and sweets were distributed among those present.
Special messages and tributes from Deepak Badki (New Delhi), Dr. Ashok Patwari (USA), and Professor Qadoos Javed (Jammu) were also presented during the programme.
On the request of the audience, Dr. Mushtaq Haider read a selection of Noor Shah’s short-short stories (Afsanchas), which received an enthusiastic response and warm appreciation from the audience.
Renowned Kashmiri fiction writer Rahim Rehbar presented a copy of his latest publication to Noor Shah as a mark of respect.
Later, Engineer Shafa Ahmad, Wahshi Saeed, and the Chairperson Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani addressed the gathering. The speakers observed that Noor Shah’s literary journey has been defined by creative excellence, intellectual depth and profound humanism, making his work an enduring treasure of Urdu literature. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue organising such literary events to introduce the younger generation to the achievements of distinguished writers and scholars.

The programme was skilfully conducted by Guild General Secretary Nasir Zamir, while Dr. Nilofer Naz Nahvi proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests, speakers, participants and organisers for making the event a memorable success. The function concluded in a warm, dignified and celebratory atmosphere.
