Srinagar, Mar 26 (KB): The Jammu and Kashmir administration has formally postponed the holiday for Shab-i-Qadr from March 27 (Thursday) to March 28 (Friday), 2025. The move was made in Government Order No. 412-JK(GAD) of 2025, released by the General Administration Department (GAD).

The alteration, as per news agency—Kashmir Bulletin which was done in partial amendment of previous orders (No. 2193-JK(GAD) and No. 2194-JK(GAD) of 2024), was issued by the office of the Lieutenant Governor and notified by M. Raju, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government.

Shab-i-Qadr, the Night of Power, is extremely religiously significant for Muslims since it is supposed to be the night when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was first blessed with the verses of the Quran. People usually celebrate the night traditionally with prayer and special congregation at mosques and shrines all over Jammu and Kashmir.

The rescheduling brings the holiday in line with the community’s expectations, allowing for a more practical observance of the holy night. The directive has been distributed to all significant government departments, such as the police, administrative offices, and legislatures.

This step has been viewed as an attempt to ensure the smooth involvement of the masses in religious practices without any administrative or logistical hurdles. The revised holiday date is likely to be incorporated into all official calendars throughout the Union Territory.— (KB)
