Srinagar, Sep 21: Amid a ruckus in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday, Gurez MLA Nazir Ahmad Gurezi urged Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to continue with the Question Hour, accusing the BJP members of deliberately trying to waste the House’s time.
“None of you will be in the House after the next election. You ruined this State,” Gurezi was heard telling the protesting BJP legislators.
Earlier, Speaker Rather warned the BJP members to return to their seats and allow the proceedings to continue.
“Go back to your seats and allow the House to continue with proceedings. Don’t force me to take action against you,” the Speaker told the protesting members.
The situation further escalated after CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami asked the BJP members to raise another slogan — “Statehood ko restore karo” — prompting angry reactions from the opposition benches.
BJP members subsequently entered into a verbal exchange with Tarigami and Langate MLA Sheikh Khursheed as the ruckus intensified.
Amid the commotion, senior National Conference leader and Khanyar MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar also stood up and raised slogans against the BJP members.
The uproar disrupted the Question Hour, with repeated exchanges between members as the Speaker sought to restore order in the House.
