Srinagar, August 14: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience widespread spells of rain and thundershowers over the coming days, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar warning of heavy to brief intense heavy showers in a few districts between August 16 and 19.
According to the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, a spell of rain or thundershowers is expected at many places on Friday, August 14, with brief intense showers likely towards the afternoon and evening.
On August 15, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, particularly during the late night and early morning hours, followed by another brief spell towards the afternoon.
From August 16 to 19, the weather is expected to remain unsettled, with a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Heavy rain or brief intense heavy showers are likely in a few districts, mainly during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The MeT has specifically warned of the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers in a few districts of the Jammu division, while one or two districts of the Kashmir division may also experience brief intense showers.
The weather is likely to improve somewhat from August 20 to 22, with light rain and thundershowers expected at scattered places.
The advisory cautioned that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides, besides causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, significant rainfall was recorded across parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, with Kathua receiving 62.4 mm, Bhaderwah 62.2 mm and Reasi ARG 34.5 mm of rain.
The Meteorological Centre has advised people in vulnerable areas to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
