Srinagar, Nov 29: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is all set to implement the “three 95 95 95 or 3-95%’s  strategy” as a roadmap to end the disease of AIDS in the UT.

Known as the three 95’s which means; all 95 % people living with HIV will know their HIV status; 95% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy (ART) and 95% of all people receiving ART will have viral suppression, according to the official documents reviewed by Rising Kashmir.

The efforts are aimed to scale up the targets in sync with the UN-AIDS, which is a Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS that unites the efforts of 11 UN organizations—UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, UN Women, ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank, launched new global targets for HIV treatment.

In this regard, the Jammu and Kashmir State Aids Control Society (JKSACS) has adopted a methodology to scale up and restructure the interventions to achieve the results.

The J&K SACS has already roped in various non-governmental organisations who are working on different targeted interventions in various districts of the union territory, as per a senior JKSACS official.

As per the figures there are a total number of 6982 persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) ever Registered with JKACS  who have been found positive after testing at ICTCs as of September 2022. Out of which the total  alive on ART treatment as of September 2022 are 3299.

According to the Project Director JKSACS, Dr. Samir Mattoo the theme for this year is ” Know Your Status” which aims at encouraging everyone to know their HIV Status.

“To know your HIV Status, free and confidential testing and counselling is available at your nearest ICTCs functioning in District Hospitals and FICTCs in PHCs /CHCs across the State including Govt. Medical Colleges and Associated Hospitals,”  the Directorate revealed in a statement.

The National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) has tied-up with community-based, non-profit organisations to involve people living with HIV in all levels of decision making, to promote social acceptance of HIV positive patients and to end stigma and discrimination, as per the NACO policy document.
