Srinagar, May 4: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally cloudy weather with spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, accompanied by thunder, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph at isolated places.

According to the forecast, similar unsettled conditions are expected to persist on May 5, with brief spells of light rain and thundershowers likely at scattered places, mainly during afternoon hours.

From May 6 to 9, weather is expected to remain largely dry across the Union Territory, although brief showers at isolated locations, particularly during afternoon hours, cannot be ruled out. Between May 10 and 12, conditions are likely to stay generally dry, with chances of light rain or thundershowers at scattered places.

Officials said the region is currently experiencing typical spring variability, as Kashmir often sees intermittent rainfall and cloud cover during May due to western disturbances

The MeT Centre has issued an advisory warning of possible thunder, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds at a few places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

People have been advised to suspend boating and shikara activities for the day and avoid venturing near water bodies. Residents are also urged to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity and keep away from loose structures, electric poles and overhead wires.

Authorities have appealed for caution, especially in vulnerable areas, to prevent any weather-related incidents.
