Srinagar, May 2: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a spell of unsettled weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected at several places.

According to the forecast, May 2 may witness brief spells of light rain or thundershowers at scattered locations, mainly during the afternoon, accompanied by gusty winds. The weather is expected to turn more active on May 3 and 4, with generally cloudy conditions and one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places. Thunder, hailstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at a few locations, particularly during the forenoon, afternoon, and evening hours.

On May 5, scattered areas may again experience brief spells of light rain or thundershowers in the afternoon. From May 6 to 9, conditions are expected to remain largely dry, though isolated brief showers cannot be ruled out. A similar trend is likely to continue between May 10 and 12, with mostly dry weather and occasional light rain at isolated places.

The MeT department has issued an advisory warning of possible hailstorms and gusty winds in parts of Central and North Kashmir, as well as some areas of the Jammu division. Authorities have advised suspension of boating and shikara operations during the afternoon to evening hours of May 3 and 4. People have also been urged to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, and wires.

Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural operations between May 3 and 5 in view of the expected weather conditions.
