J&K’s Bilquis Mir Appointed Competition Director for 1st Khelo India Water Sports Games

In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir, Ms. Bilquis Mir has been nominated as the Competition Director for the inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Games, scheduled in Srinagar from August 21–23, 2025. A pioneer in Indian water sports & the country’s first woman Olympic jury member (Paris 2024), her nomination was confirmed by the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA).

The Games will showcase kayaking, canoeing, & rowing events across Dal Lake and other key venues. IKCA President Prashant Kushwaha praised Mir’s global experience, calling it vital for the success of this national event. A venue inspection is underway, led by Ms. Mir & rowing expert Mr. Saji Thomas, to assess infrastructure and logistics.

The announcement has been hailed as a milestone for J&K’s sporting legacy & a powerful symbol of women’s leadership in Indian sports.
