Journalist Fraternity express gratitude to DGP

Journalist fraternity has expressed satisfaction over the immediate action taken by Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh against the police officers who allegedly thrashed media persons.

Rasheed Rahi, president Jammu and Kashmir Editors’ Association, has thanked DGP Dilbagh Singh for taking serious note of the incident and timely action against the officials involved in assault.

‘’Journalists have expressed satisfaction over this action as it has been taken without any delay which they appreciate. The action has given sense of security to the media fraternity’’, Rahi said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Press Photographers Association President Farooq Javed while speaking to has expressed his gratitude to DGP for acting immediately against the officer.

Kashmir Press Club Vice President Muhammad Moauzam further added that the action is appreciable but do not want repetition of such acts again.

It is pertain to mention that, on Tuesday media persons while performing their professional duities were thrashed by security forces at Jahnagir chowk, while covering 8th Muharram procession amid restrictions. The incident was criticized by various mainstream leaders, media fraternity and civil society groups.

On the instructions of Director General Police Dilbagh Singh, SSP Srinagar was directed to take the immediate action and several police personnel were either transferred or attached. A police officer was also removed from his position.(
