In a dazzling display of talent and dedication, Junaid Rather from the picturesque Anantnag District in Jammu and Kashmir has been selected for SATA’s International Theatre Residency in Sri Lanka, slated for May 2024. This prestigious honor sees him representing India as a facilitator, marking a monumental achievement not only for Junaid himself but also for the entire Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.

Junaid’s journey into the world of theatre began at the tender age of fourteen, where his passion for the stage ignited. He fervently delved into the realm of Bhand Pather, the folk theatre of Kashmir, alongside various other theatrical endeavors. Through unwavering dedication and boundless passion, Junaid etched his place in the annals of theatre, garnering acclaim through multiple accolades including the esteemed title of Scholar of Traditional Theatre Arts of Kashmir and a prestigious National Award bestowed by the Ministry of Culture, recognizing his contribution as a young artist.

Over the course of my journey, Junaid has lent talents to more than 20 full-length productions, including seminal works such as Agha Shahid’s “Ali’s Country without Post Office,” Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and Her Children,” and “The Caucasian Chalk Circle,” as well as classics like William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and Waris Shah’s “Heer Ranjha.” Collaborating with renowned luminaries of the theatrical world, both domestically and internationally, has enriched his artistic vision. Among these luminaries are Aubrey Mellor, Neil Fraser, Padmashree Rita Ganguly, Robin Das, Prasannasir,Abdul Lateef Khatana, Dr. Abhilash Pillai, Souti Chakraborty, and Amitesh Grover, whose mentorship has been invaluable.
