Jammu, April 19 : Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday addressed a bike and car rally from Kullian to Rameshwar Dham in RS Pura and raised concerns over the Centre’s policies on women’s reservation and statehood.
Addressing the gathering, Karra said the developments related to the Women’s Reservation Bill show a lack of political will. He questioned the delay in implementing the bill after its passage in Parliament in 2023. He also opposed any move to carry out delimitation without a census and said such steps create confusion.
Karra said issues like unemployment, rising prices, and limited opportunities for youth continue to affect people in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that rural and border areas need more attention and development. He said the Congress party supports representation for women in decision-making and referred to 33 percent reservation in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
He also said the party will continue to raise the issue of restoration of statehood and democratic rights.
JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla also addressed the rally and said people are facing difficulties due to rising prices and unemployment.
He said the rally reflects public concern over governance and policies in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the party will continue its outreach programmes across the region.
The rally was organised by former minister Ch Gharu Ram. Several leaders attended, including former ministers Mula Ram and Abdul Majeed Wani, former MP T.S. Bajwa, former legislators Ved Mahajan and Balbir Singh, former minister Yash Pal Kundal, and District Congress Committee President Neeraj Kundan.
Mula Ram said issues like unemployment and price rise continue to affect people and called for strengthening democratic institutions. Abdul Majeed Wani highlighted the need for better infrastructure, healthcare, and employment in rural and hilly areas.
Ch Gharu Ram spoke about the concerns of farmers, refugees, ex-servicemen, and border residents. He also stressed the need for effective implementation of policies for women.
Neeraj Kundan raised local issues including road connectivity, irrigation, and basic facilities in rural areas. He said the rally shows support for policies focused on development and public welfare. (KNS)
