Jammu and Kashmir government is trying its best to find the truth behind braid chopping cases in the state, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Monday.

“We are trying our best to crack the case and bring those involved [in braid chopping] to book,” said Mehbooba while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Dal lake in Srinagar.

She said a team of doctors is meeting the victims to help in the investigation.

Authorities have so far been clueless, even as the government has announced a reward of Rs six lakh on information leading to arrest of braid choppers.

Dozens of incidents have been reported from various parts of the Valley, spooking the people, especially women.

First case of braid chopping was reported from Srinagar yesterday.

Massive protests rocked Bonpora area of Batamaloo Srinagar on Sunday after a woman said that unknown persons barged into her house and chopped off her braid.

“Some unknown persons entered into a residential house of a person and poured some spray at the face of his wife Bilquees, leaving her partially unconscious. They later cut her braid and fled,” said a group of protestors.
