Srinagar, April 28: Members of the prestigious Kashmir Golf Club have appealed to the Chief Minister to expedite the nomination of a new Chairman for the club, stressing the urgent need for dynamic leadership to revive and strengthen the institution’s rich legacy.
In a communication addressed to the Chief Minister’s office, the members emphasized that the absence of an active Chairman has led to administrative delays and affected the day-to-day functioning of the historic club. They highlighted that the Kashmir Golf Club, established over a century ago, holds a special place in the region’s cultural and sporting life and deserves renewed focus and direction.
“The Kashmir Golf Club is not merely a sporting facility; it is a heritage institution that has contributed significantly to promoting tourism, sportsmanship, and camaraderie in the Valley. We seek the appointment of a Chairman who can safeguard its legacy while bringing fresh energy to its activities,” a senior member said while speaking to reporters.
The members also expressed concern over the maintenance of the club’s infrastructure, the upgrading of facilities, and the need for hosting more tournaments to attract golfers from across the country and abroad. According to them, a capable Chairman with a clear vision can work closely with the government to realize these goals.
They have requested that the government nominate a figure with a strong background in administration, a passion for golf, and a commitment to promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s sports and tourism sectors.
The Kashmir Golf Club, located in the heart of Srinagar, is not only one of the oldest golf courses in South Asia but also a symbol of the Valley’s elegance and sporting spirit. The members hope that a prompt nomination will usher in a new era of growth and vibrancy for the club.
Officials have acknowledged the request and indicated that the matter is under active consideration | Kashmir Pen
