Srinagar, July 24, KP: Kashmir legislator Engineer Rasheed Monday organized a strange protest, donned two of his bangaded party workers the uniform of Jammu and Kashmir Police, to depict the condition of those policemen who were thrashed by Army inside their police station in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Eight policemen including two officers were injured after army soldiers thrashed them and ransacked police station Gund in Ganderbal district on Friday night.

Rasheed along with the scores of party workers appeared near Polo-View and marched towards city centre Lal Chowk. Displaying banners and placards that read: ‘JKP promise not to commit excesses on people’ the protesters led by Rasheed condemned the Army attack on the local cops.

“Policemen should take an oath today that they won’t inflict brutalities on their own people,” he said.

Rasheed was however, detained by police and lodged into police station Kothi Bagh.

Before his arrest, Rasheed said that this protest has been organized to show the whole world what happened to the policemen in Kashmir. “Not to speak of common men, even policemen who aid and assist India are not safe in Kashmir. Army thrashed them for being Kashmiri,” he said and appealed JKP to stop confronting and targeting their own people who according to him are fighting for a just Cause.

“This protest is aimed at to awaken the conscience of the Kashmiri policemen. They who use pellets and bullets on their own people should understand and realize that their uniform can’t save them,” Rasheed said.

The protesters continuously raised slogans: “Bharat se Rishta kya, Jabri Qabza aur kya and Hai haq Hamara Rai Shumari”. Unlike in past the police this time didn’t stop Rasheed near Kothi Bagh Police Station and allowed him to march towards city centre. The traffic came to stand still due to pro-police protest. Witnesses told CNS that even pedestrians participated in his protest and chanted pro-freedom slogans.

Rasheed was detained by a party from Maisuma Police Station. As Rasheed was being whisked away by police, his supporters kept raising slogans in favour of plebiscite and against Indian army. (KP)
