Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh recorded a sharp dip in night temperatures on Thursday, with several places in the region settling below the freezing point, according to data.

In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund recorded minus 3.2 degrees. Pahalgam and Kupwara saw temperatures drop to minus 4.6 degrees and minus 4.2 degrees, respectively.

Pulwama and Shopian were the coldest in the valley at minus 5.2 degrees, followed by Zethan Rafiabad at minus 5.5 degrees.

Gulmarg, the popular ski resort, recorded zero degree, and Kokernag settled at minus 1.2 degrees.

The Srinagar Airport and Budgam both registered minus 4.0 degrees, while Anantnag touched minus 4 degrees. Zojila Pass was the coldest in the region at minus 18.0 degrees.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained above the freezing point. Jammu recorded 8.6 degrees, while Katra registered 9.5 degrees. Banihal recorded 2.4 degrees, Bhaderwah 1.4 degrees, and Rajouri 1.0 degree. Udhampur settled at 2.6 degrees, while Batote and Ramban recorded 5.7 degrees and 4.4 degrees, respectively.

Cold conditions also prevailed in Ladakh. Leh recorded minus 7.0 degrees, while Kargil saw minus 6.5 degrees. Drass registered minus 9.9 degrees, and Padum settled at minus 9.6 degrees. Nyoma reported minus 12.8 degrees, the lowest in the region.

The weather office said the dip in temperatures was due to clear skies and dry weather prevailing across the region.(KNS)
