Tahir Hussain Mir, a student of journalism at the Media Education Research centre (MERC) department of Kashmir University, has been released after his prolonged detention under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Mir was detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) and lodged in Srinagar Central jail from past almost one year.
Tahir was arrested from his residence during summer uprising last year.
He was first lodged at Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and later shifted to Central Jail Srinagar for his first semester exams on court orders.
Tahir was also sacked from his job in the State Education Services where he worked as a laboratory bearer.
Meanwhile, confirming the development, the family members said Tahir reached home on Tuesday evening.
“He was released from Koth Balwal 20 days ago and was under detention at Police station Bandipora. Now he was released from Police station yesterday and is with family now,” said Reena, sister of Tahir Mir.
It may be recalled that Minister for education Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari on Teacher’s day had said he will pursue cases of all students detained by the police during the 2016 uprising and get them released.
“I have rendered my personal efforts to get all the students detained during summer 2016 unrest, released. Till date almost 30 students have been released,” Bukhari told Greater Kashmir.
Interestingly, a student from Doda district is still under police custody.
