Srinagar, Jan 16 : Amid unrest in Iran, Indian students are returning to India, with a majority hailing from Kashmir.
Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of the J&K Students Association (JKSA) informed News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the returning Indian students most of whom are from Kashmir are currently at Shiraz Airport. They are travelling on Air Arabia flight G9 214 from Shiraz International Airport to Sharjah International Airport, and will then board connecting flight G9 463 from Sharjah to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The flight is scheduled to land in Delhi at 2:40 AM.
He added that a Mahan Air flight, W5 071, is also operating from Tehran International Airport and is expected to arrive at IGI Airport, Delhi, at 12:10 AM.
Khuehmi said that all students are travelling at their own expense and noted that a significant number of pilgrims are also on board the two flights.
Officials at the Indian Embassy in Tehran have stated that the Government of India’s formal evacuation operations are currently on hold.
