Dehradun, Jan 29 : An 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller allegedly was brutally assaulted by a group of individuals in the Vikas Nagar area here, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA).
In a statement, the association alleged the teenager was “beaten mercilessly” and left with multiple bruises. He suffered a fractured left arm and serious head injuries after being struck with iron rods, it claimed.
The victim was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital here, the JKSA said. Blood was oozing from his head following the assault, it added.
Relatives of the boy told the association that the assailants first questioned the family about their identity. Upon learning they were Muslims from Kashmir, the violence escalated, they alleged.
The boy was punched repeatedly while other family members were dragged, slapped and attacked with rods, the JKSA statement said.
It described the incident as a “chilling reminder” of how communal profiling and mob brutality are being normalised against vulnerable communities trying to earn a dignified livelihood.
The association urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to intervene immediately and ensure registration of a “strict” FIR against the culprits.
“This case must be pursued with seriousness, and a clear precedent must be set so that such acts of hate and violence are not repeated with impunity,” the JKSA said.
