Imagine the thrill of a new era for Kashmiri cinema—a renaissance that has the film world buzzing with anticipation. At the center of this revival is Kaya Palat, a groundbreaking film featuring beloved TV actress Helly Shah, renowned filmmakers Rahhat Shah Kazmi and Tariq Khan, and directed by Shoib Nikash Shah. Many of these creators hail from Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, and together they’re tapping into the region’s cinematic heritage to present audiences with an unforgettable journey into Kashmiri storytelling. With a trailer that hints at suspense, action, and raw emotion, and a soundtrack that lingers, Kaya Palat is more than just a film—it’s a symbol of resilience and revival for Kashmir’s film industry.

Kashmir was once Bollywood’s favorite backdrop, celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes, shikaras, and vibrant culture, which captured the hearts of millions. Kaya Palat strives to revive this rich cinematic tradition, signaling Kashmir’s return to Indian cinema. This film isn’t just another release; it’s a beacon for an industry reclaiming its rightful place after years of silence.

Kashmir’s cinematic journey took a tragic pause following the insurgency, with theatres closing and screens going dark. After this prolonged silence, the region saw its first feature film in decades with Manzraat (1964), followed years later by Kashmir Daily (2018), directed by Hussein Khan, a film tackling local social issues and reintroducing Kashmiri cinema to audiences. Now, in Kaya Palat, actor Mir Sarwar, who also starred in Kashmir Daily, returns to lend his talent to a new story of resilience—this time about a woman’s battle against organized crime.

The talented trio of Rahhat Shah Kazmi, Tariq Khan, and Shoib Nikash Shah is not new to Kashmir’s cinematic landscape. Their earlier collaboration, Identity Card: Ek Lifeline (2014), directed by Kazmi and featuring Shoib and Tariq, received international acclaim, even screening at the European Parliament. With Kaya Palat, these filmmakers bring their experience and storytelling expertise back to Kashmir, blending resilience, artistry, and a compelling narrative that promises to captivate audiences far and wide.

Ready for the most exciting part? Kaya Palat will premiere in Kashmir, giving local audiences the first glimpse of a film that has the potential to reignite an entire industry. With a cast that includes Mir Sarwar, Rajeev Rana, Rohil Bhatia, Swaroopa Ghosh, Iftikhar Mughal, and Azmat Khawaja, this film promises a powerful cinematic experience. The entire team has poured heart and soul into this project, and its release on November 15, 2024, marks a pivotal moment in the history of Kashmiri cinema.

Distributed by Seven 2 Creations and produced by Rahhat Kazmi Film Studios, Tariq Khan Films, Tera Entertainment, and other partners, Kaya Palat exemplifies the collective vision for a thriving film industry in Kashmir. According to Hussein Khan, Seven 2 Creations founder and Kashmiri filmmaker, regional stories from Kashmir have the power to resonate globally, and his dream of a full-fledged industry in Kashmir now feels closer than ever.
