Srinagar, Jan 3 : Kashmir Despatch Editor-in-Chief Syed Basharat Bukhari has distanced himself from the self-styled J&K Media Council that convened a programme at Lal Rukh hotel in Srinagar on Monday.
In a statement issued here, Bukhari termed the event a politically motivated affair in which he was invited through a devious and deceitful tactic. “I was telephonically invited to this event on the pretext that some editors including few from Jammu were to meet for a get together. However, on seeing some politicians on the dais and some political activists in the audience, I left the venue after a few minutes of stay,” Bukhari added.
He added that the event seemed to be a union of some disgruntled media activists whose sole motive was to malign the image of the government particularly the department of Information J&K. “I have never been affiliated with any media association, council or guild sofar. So I categorically distance myself from this self styled council that has been apparently formed to serve some vested interests.”
Bukhari also took a dig on the organizers of this event for mentioning his name in their media statement without taking his consent. “The media statement of this council shows how unethically its whole event was organized. The way my name has been mentioned in its media statement just to give some credence to the formation of this council, is not only unethical but illegal under law.”
