Kulgam, Apr 6 : Police in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have registered 10 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 14 drug peddlers over the last three weeks.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) nine FIRs were registered at Police Station Qazigund and one at Police Station Devsar. The operations led to the seizure of 415.61 grams of heroin, 1,348 grams of charas (including powder and charas-like substance), 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri, and cash amounting to ?1,37,990.
According to a police official, investigations have established multiple backward and forward linkages, resulting in subsequent arrests that point to the existence of a wider, organised narcotics network in the region.
Among the cases registered, in FIR No. 35/2026 of PS Qazigund, 163 grams of charas powder was recovered from Rasik Ahmad Padder at Furrah. In FIR No. 43/2026, 278 grams of heroin and ?17,100 were recovered from two accused, including one from Srinagar, leading to a backward linkage in Jammu’s Belli Chirrana area, where a search yielded an additional 262 grams of heroin and exposed an inter-district drug syndicate.
In FIR No. 58/2026, police recovered 125.61 grams of heroin and ?85,000 from an individual from Punjab and another from DH Pora near Doru Crossing. In FIR No. 15/2026 of PS Devsar, approximately 390 grams of a charas-like substance and ?2,200 were recovered from a person apprehended during naka checking at Cheyan.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reiterated that the police are adopting a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and will continue strict action against those involved in the narcotics trade. He appealed to the public to cooperate and share any information related to drug peddling, assuring complete confidentiality of informants.
Kulgam Police remains committed to eradicating the drug menace and will continue intensified operations against narcotics networks, the officer added. (KNS)
