Jammu, Apr 6 : Traffic on the strategic Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was suspended after a landslide blocked the road in Ramban district, officials said on Monday.

They said heavy debris, including rocks and mud, slid down the hillside late Sunday night, hitting the stretch between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote and blocking both sides of the carriageway.

Following the incident, authorities stopped vehicular movement from either end of the highway as a precautionary measure to avoid any mishap, they said.

Officials added that intermittent stone falls were continuing in the area, posing a risk to commuters and restoration teams.

Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore traffic, while commuters have been advised to avoid travel on the highway until further updates, they said.(KNS)
