Srinagar / Mumbai, Nov 24: India today bid farewell to one of its most enduring cinematic icons as veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 in Mumbai. Widely celebrated as Indian cinema’s “He-Man,” Dharmendra leaves behind an extraordinary legacy spanning over six decades and more than 300 films.
His cremation was held at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Mumbai, where top film personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Sharmila Tagore, and Sanjay Dutt gathered to pay their last respects.
Kashmir Film Society Pays Rich Tributes
The Kashmir Film Society (KFS), led by its Chairman Mushtaq Bala, joined the nation in mourning the legendary actor’s demise.
In a collective tribute issued on behalf of the KFS fraternity, the Society said:
“Dharmendra Ji was a towering figure whose warmth, humility, and unforgettable performances touched countless hearts in the Valley. He enjoyed a special bond with Kashmir, and his films remain deeply cherished here. The Kashmir Film Society expresses profound grief over his passing and extends heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and admirers.”
The tribute was jointly issued by prominent members of the Kashmir Film Society, including:

The Society noted that Dharmendra’s visits to Kashmir during various film shoots in the 60s, 70s, and 80s helped cement his place as one of the most beloved actors among Kashmiri audiences.

Dharmendra’s films enjoyed immense popularity in J&K for decades. From the timeless Sholay and Dharam Veer to the poetic Haqeeqat and the classic Anupama, his performances captivated generations of viewers across the Valley and Jammu region.
Local artists and filmmakers recalled how Dharmendra’s persona embodied a rare blend of strength, grace, and humility—qualities that resonated strongly with Kashmiri audiences.
The End of a Golden Era
Dharmendra’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. Even in his later years, he remained active, appearing in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and completing work on the upcoming Ikkis.
