SRINAGAR 06 Jun : The Budgam MLA, representing the socio-religious organisation Anjuman Sharie Shian, raised a set of key demands during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir to finalise arrangements for the upcoming month of Muharram.
Officials said the meeting was convened to assess preparedness for religious observances across the Valley. The legislator attended the meeting following a decision by Anjuman Sharie Shian president Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi to formally place concerns before the administration regarding restrictions on processions and the detention of youths.
During the meeting, the MLA submitted a memorandum seeking the revocation of the longstanding ban on the Muthid-i-Jaloos Ashura (united Ashura procession). The memorandum also called for legal relief for detained youths, including the withdrawal of FIRs and cases registered under the Public Safety Act (PSA), as well as the unconditional release of individuals currently lodged in prisons outside the region.
The legislator further urged the administration to ensure robust civic arrangements during Muharram, calling for strict directions to all line departments to maintain uninterrupted water supply, electricity, sanitation, and healthcare services throughout the mourning period.
