The countrywide 21-days lockdown in wake of Covid-19 forced residents of Machil tehsil of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district to walk 40 kilometers to get life saving drugs.
Machil some 60 km away from district headquarter is lacking stock of eatables and medicines from couple of weeks in wake of lockdown enforced by authorities to keep Covid-19 away.
Mohammad Jamal, a resident of Machil village told, “My child was ill and I searched for medicine prescribed by doctor, everywhere in the area but did not find, I left with no other option than to walk by foot to reach Khumrayal Kupwara where I met chairman Civil Society Kupwara who helped me and provided vehicle to reach back to home as no vehicle was plying due to strict restrictions put in place.
Jamal said in Machil area there is lack of medicine and other essential commodities due to which people are facing immense hardships. He appealed divisional administration to redressal at issue at earliest and ensure supply of essentials particularly medicines to this far-flung area.
