Pahalgam Route Temporarily Closed for Repair After Heavy Rainfall; Over 3.95 Lakh Pilgrims Complete Darshan

Srinagar, July 25 The Shri Amarnathji Yatra will continue through the Baltal route while the Pahalgam axis has been temporarily closed for pilgrimage to facilitate urgent repair and maintenance works necessitated by recent heavy rainfall, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg announced on Saturday.

According to the Divisional Commissioner, persistent rainfall has caused damage along the Pahalgam route, making immediate restoration and maintenance essential to ensure the safety of pilgrims. As a precautionary measure, the Pahalgam axis has been temporarily suspended for Yatra movement until the required works are completed.

He said comprehensive arrangements have been made on the Baltal axis to ensure the uninterrupted, safe, and smooth continuation of the annual pilgrimage.

“Due to the recent rains, urgent repair and maintenance works are required on the Pahalgam axis of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra. The Yatra shall continue through the Baltal axis, where adequate arrangements have been put in place to facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims,” the Divisional Commissioner said.

Officials have assured that all necessary logistical, security, medical, and transportation arrangements are in place on the Baltal route to ensure that pilgrims do not face inconvenience during the temporary closure of the Pahalgam axis.

Meanwhile, authorities informed that the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra has witnessed an overwhelming response from devotees, with more than 3.95 lakh pilgrims having performed darshan at the Holy Amarnath Cave Shrine so far this year, reflecting the smooth, peaceful, and successful conduct of the annual pilgrimage despite weather-related challenges.

The administration has advised pilgrims to follow official advisories and cooperate with authorities until the Pahalgam route is restored and reopened for Yatra movement.(KNC)
