Srinagar, Feb 02 : A local court here has sentenced a man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2021, police said on Monday.

A senior police officer told the Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Srinagar Police secured the conviction in case FIR No. 24/2021, registered at Police Station M.R. Gunj under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The case pertained to the abduction and assault of a 17-year-old girl, which was reported on April 11, 2021.

Following a thorough investigation—which included witness statements, evidence collection, and forensic examination—a charge-sheet was filed before the Fast Track Court (POCSO) in Srinagar.

After a detailed trial, the court found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

On December 30, 2025, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment along with a fine of ?15,000.

In a statement, Srinagar Police reiterated its “zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children” and affirmed its commitment to “ensuring justice for victims through prompt and professional investigation.” (KNS)
