Anantnag, Sep 02 : A tourist was killed after a boulder rolled down a hillside and hit a vehicle on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road near Bumzoo shrine in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

An official said that an Innova vehicle bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, carrying six tourists from Pahalgam towards Anantnag, was struck by a boulder that suddenly rolled down from the hillside.

He said that one tourist sustained serious injuries, while the other tourists, including the driver, were safe. The injured tourist was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased was later identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R Pala Krishna Rao, a resident of Ganjam, Odisha.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident.
