The India vs Pakistan Super 12s Group 2 game at the men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be played on October 23 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The date was confirmed as the ICC announced the grouping and tournament schedule on Friday (January 21).

Group 1: Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, A1, B2

Group 2: India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, B1, A2

The tournament’s preliminary first round kicks off on October 16 with 2014 champions Sri Lanka taking on Namibia in Geelong. The final will be played at the MCG on November 13 with Sydney and Adelaide hosting the two semifinals respectively.

The Super 12s phase of the tournament – with two groups – will begin on October 22 with finalists of the 2021 edition, Australia and New Zealand, squaring off at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Other big-ticket encounters in this phase include Australia vs England at MCG on October 28, New Zealand vs England at The Gabba, Brisbane on November 1.

The Optus Stadium in Perth will play host to a double header on October 30 with India and South Africa squaring off after the game between Pakistan and the runners-up from Group A.

The tournament’s first round will be played in Geelong and Hobart and feature Sri Lanka and Namibia in Group A while two-time winners West Indies will be joined by Scotland in Group B. Four more qualified teams will be split across the two groups.

This edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia was originally scheduled to be played in 2020 but the tournament had to be postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Cricket Australia swapped hosting rights with the BCCI, the latter hosting the postponed edition in Dubai last year with Australia agreeing to host the eighth edition of the marquee tournament.
