PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel and objected to his public outreach with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the backdrop of the Gaza conflict.

Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the Prime Minister, as the head of government of over 1.4 billion people, should be mindful of the message such engagements send at a time when the situation in Gaza has drawn international attention.

Mufti alleged that Netanyahu should be held accountable for civilian deaths in the ongoing conflict and described him as an “international criminal”.

She claimed that in some countries he could face legal action over allegations linked to the Gaza war.

“The Prime Minister should not be seen embracing such leaders,” she said, adding that India has historically maintained a moral position in global affairs.

Mufti urged the Centre to review its diplomatic approach and ensure that India’s foreign policy reflects its stated commitment to peace and justice.(KNS).
