PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said on Wednesday that he agrees with the “displeasure” of the Supreme Court on the right to freedom, but it becomes selective when it comes to Kashmiris. Mufti’s statement came in the context of remarks made by the Supreme Court during the hearing on the bail plea of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.
Forget court ruling they did not even get a hearing, said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who herself was released from detention after 14 months from August 5, 2019 when centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A besides divided the Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs).
Taking to micro blogging site twitter Mehbooba said “Agree with SCs outrage on right to liberty. But sadly this outrage has been selective as there are hundreds of Kashmiris & journalists languishing in jails on baseless charges. Forget court ruling they didn’t even get a hearing. Why no sense of urgency for their liberty?” Arnab Goswami was arrested by police in Mumbai on November 4 in an abetment to suicide case. However, SC granted him bail on Wednesday after Mumbai High Court denied it.
