MeT Predicts Light Snow and Rain

Cold wave is gradually increasing in Kashmir Valley and night temperature in the city was recorded at minus 5.2 degrees Celsius. Weather in Kashmir Valley on Sunday. The weather remained cloudy and cold winds continued to blow throughout the day despite the mild and lifeless sunshine.

The MeT department said that there will be light snowfall in the upper parts of the valley on Monday while there may be rain in the plains. A wave of severe cold has completely engulfed the valley and normal life is being affected due to icy winds in the morning and evening.

Drinking water taps were found frozen again on Sunday morning, the upper surface of Dal Lake was also frozen and some reservoirs were also found partially frozen.

In other parts of the valley, including Srinagar, it was a little sunny from one o’clock in the afternoon but later the sun disappeared among the clouds.

According to the meteorological department, the weather is likely to change in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 12 hours and there may be snowfall as well as rains. The weather will improve but then again the dry weather will result in further decline in the minimum night temperature.

The department said that the minimum night temperature in Srinagar on Saturday and Sunday was negative. The minimum temperature at Qazigund was recorded at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius while the tourist spot Gulmarg was the coldest place at minus 7.2 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius in Kupwara and minus 4.9 degrees Celsius in Kokernag. The minimum temperature in Kargil district of Ladakh Union Territory was minus 17.8 degrees Celsius.
