The MeT on Saturday forecasted “scattered” and “fairly widespread” rain from 4 to 7 May and has issued “yellow warning” for isolated lightning and thundershowers with blustery winds in Jammu and Kashmir.

Till 3 May, Kashmir and Pir Panjal range of Jammu division will witness isolated light rain and thundershowers in towards late afternoon.

“There is possibility of scattered rain on 4 May, fairly widespread rain on May 5 and 6 and scattered rain on May 7,” a MeT official said about the forecast for one week.

The weather department has also issued ‘yellow warning for “isolated lightning/ thundershowers with gusty wind 30- 40-kmph” for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions from 1 to 5 May.

There are four types of colour codes signifying the level of caution: green which means no action, yellow—situation to be watched), amber –government agencies need to be prepared for severe weather and red –action needed by the agencies.

The meteorological department official also said that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.4°C against 11.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.3°C below normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K where 1.4mm of rain was recorded during last 24 hours till 0830 hours, he said.

South Kashmir’s Qazigund recorded a low of 7.3°C against previous night’s 8.2°C and it was below normal by 1.2°C in the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.
Mercury settled at 3.8°C against 4.2°C on the previous night in Pahalgam.

However, the temperature was below normal by 1.1°C during this time of the season in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir which also received 0.1mm of rain during the time, he said.

South Kashmir’s Kokernag recorded a low of 6.2°C against normal of 8.4°C and last night’s 8.3°C, the official said. The area received 0.4mm of the rain during the time, he said.

On the other hand North Kashmir’s Kupwara recorded a low of 6.3°C against 8.0°C on the previous night which was below normal by 2.1°C for this time of the season.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.0°C against 6.0°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 1.3°C below normal in the resort which received 5.4mm of rain in the 24 hours.
