SRINAGAR 08 Aug : Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience another wet spell over the next 10 days, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu division and warning of possible flash floods, landslides and waterlogging from August 9 to 11.
A MeT official said one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places on August 8, while brief intense showers may occur at a few locations.
For August 9 to 11, the department has forecast a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in a few districts of Jammu division, while some districts of Kashmir division may receive brief spells of intense heavy showers.
The weather department has further forecast light rain and thundershowers at many places between August 12 and 17, with brief intense showers possible at a few locations.
In its advisory for August 9 to 11, the MeT warned that torrential rain and intense heavy showers could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas and cause waterlogging in low-lying locations.
People have been advised to avoid nallahs, landslide-prone areas and other vulnerable locations, while authorities have been asked to remain alert during the period.
