A militant was killed in a gunfight with goverment forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Thursday morning.
Sources said that on a specific information Army’s 13 RR, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched cordon and search operation at Sukur Din Mohlla Hajin early this morning.
“As forces tightened the cordon the hiding militants opened fire on forces which triggered gunfight. In exchange of firing a militant was killed,” they said.
A body has been recovered and an AK 47 was also recovered from the encounter site, they said.
The search operation has been called off.
Following the encounter people came out and pelted forces with stones which triggered massive clashes between forces and locals.
