A militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight with the government forces in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, said a top police source.
The gunfight began today morning in Ravarian Talla village, around one kilometre from Sunderbani township, after militants opened fire on a search party of the forces.
“Heavy gunfight is going on,” said a senior police officer, adding a militant has far been killed in the gunfight. “One militant has been killed so far. The encounter is going on,” said the officer, on the condition of anonymity.
Speaking to reporters near the site of the gunfight, SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas said that at least two militants have been surrounded by the forces. “The information is preliminary in nature,” he said.
Earlier in the day, forces recovered bags containing ammunition and explosive material during searches in the area.
